[OZAPRS] RGI digi too big a coverage ?

Hi Glen and others..

The 1st point I think RGI-1 is in the perfect spot and as a W2 digi works
perfectly.

The 2nd point I'd like to bring up is I hear RHR-1 should be a wide 2 digi
also. Well it was a W2 digi when it was first installed but being 30km from
AMW-1 and it also being W2 there was so much duplicated traffic from RGI
RTZ RTM and other digits that it made sense to change either RHR or AMW to
W1. Since this was done it has improved reliability of the aprs Network

The old days before APRS.fi mapping I agree that you would want to see
stuff from all over the place to fill your software maps.

But really if I'm driving around Sydney I don't need to see who is driving
in Canberra. It is just unnecessary and add un-needed packets on the
network.

Plus today with smart becon on most trackers there are a lot more packets
per hour then if you only becon ever 60seconds.

The point is to try and keep congestion to a minimum and you may live in an
area that is quite but by you injecting packets into the network that is
not needed can cause congestion somewhere else. This happend in Orange a
couple of years ago where igated packed where resent and was causing
unnecessary issues..

Cheers

Canberra traffic will get to Sydney via my igate/digi vk2him-1 at
Gerringong.

I hear RGI-1 frequently and AMW-1 always so Sydney will be getting Canberra
traffic via me/AMW unless I also change my current Wide2-1 to Wide1 only
... but my change to Wide1 isn't helpful for local traffic who can't reach
AMW-1 direct due to the local topology.
