Bob,

Mint is more than a GUI, Linux Mint is an entire distribution based on
Ubuntu which is an entire distribution based on Debian. For each of
those you must use a repository specific to the distribution.

Linux Mint has its own repository

Ubuntu has its own repository

Debian has its own repository.

The repositories are not interchangeable because each distro below
Debian does its own manipulation of at least some of the original Debian
files. Ubuntu modifies Debian files, and Linux Mint modifies Ubuntu files.

If you're running 32 bit Linux Mint on a 64 bit processor you can only
run 32 bit debs, so mismatch there can't be an issue.

Cheers,
