This didn't work for me on the PC with Linux Mint 17.3

This flavor is based on Ubuntu right? Mint is only the GUI right?
so where does "debian' come into the equation?
Do I have to be a bit more careful with what I download?
I've been thinking if it works on Ubuntu it should work for Mint?
Not sure.

I got this error

E: Failed to fetch <a moz-do-not-send="true"

404 Not Found

Would that mean the site is wrong, down, kaput? Maybe try again
later?

There it is again in the error message "i386.deb" the i386 is my
machine a 64 bit processor but running 32bit Linux Mint. .deb for
debian?

Not game to try it on the RPi
my experience, your mileage may differ.
I'm back to Linux after a loooooong
time away. Bought an R-Pi 3, downloaded
the Rasbian Jessie image and wrote it to
an 8Gb micro SD. it fired up first time.
Tried using the package manager in
Raspbian Jessie without much success. So
back to the command line.
Open a terminal and type in
sudo apt-get update # this
updates all the package information and
makes sure you get the latest versions

A whole lot of stuff scrolls by

When it returns to the prompt type in

sudo apt-get install xastir

More stuff scrolls by and you eventually get back
to the prompt.
At the prompt, type in
