I think the messaging work by call sign, even though the stations can be set to either loc or call signed based. As per when I go overseas, I can message back here fine from the USA ... And visa versa. Same works for interstate.

As an example ....Try sending a message to "ISS" with a "?".... It should send back the next ISS orbit for you based on your position..  That server is in the States... ( works for AO 27 and others too !)
