[OZAPRS] Re: digipeated iss beacon

Hi Geoff

Thanks for the reply. Yes in this case it would be an advantage as many of my beacons are not received by other Sgates especially when the footprint is out over the Indian Ocean. The version I am using has a switch in the config file to allow this and I see my digipeated beacons, once received by my station, forwarded on to the net but they seem to vanish. I am wondering what would be different between my own digipeated packets and those of, say, Mike's vk8zma? I will load up the earlier version and see what happens and from memory I don't think there is an option in the config file to turn it on or off in this earlier version. Will be an interesting test nevertheless.

  Cheers for now
  Martin

It's probably a bug in the OLDER version of APRSD ;-)

An IGate should NEVER transmit back to the internet something it transmitted
to RF, as this causes loops in the network which is very bad. 99% of all
IGate capable software has been fixed to correct this bug, but in your case
you want to use the bug to your advantage :-)

Hi Ian

thanks for the reply. Yes these beacons are received by vk3jtm-5 who
operates a rx only sgate. These beacons are forwarded by him to the net and
they appear on the maps. My station also receives them and forwards them on
to the net but they don't seem to end up on the maps. I never see my posit
on a map which was forwarded by my station as happens with vk8zma's beacons.
So I am wondering if it is simply a bug in the newer version of aprsd?

It is a puzzlement.

Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin,

I can see some of your beacons on the net via ARRIS:

This was from http://aprs.fi/ which I find to be better than findu
