Thanks Tim,
No one had replied so I assumed I had been sent back to do more reading.
I worked out that the tiny track was a one way (broadcasts the position
etc) link however I wanted to make sure that I was not just taking from
the system by using a one way link. I would prefer to be able to act as a
digipeter while mobile if possible, hence giving back to the system and
improving coverage, however this seems not possible from your email and
the way APRS is set up.
I down loaded UI-View last night and sort of got it going. It will not
talk to the server so I assume I need to free up the port restrictions in
the router.
I got to thinking that why can't a sound card act as the TNC with some
software smarts to emulate the terminal etc. Anyway, found AGWPE, which
appears to perform this function. Could not get it to work with UI-Veiw
in the short term as the YL was complaining that she had become a Ham
radio widow of sorts. She did however think the idea of tracking me was
very appealing. Bloody woman!! ;-)
I have an old GPS with no data cable so I may have to home brew one,
however I am thinking of simply buying a USB device which I can easily
mount on either the car parcel shelf or dashboard. An old laptop, 1/4
wave glass on glass and the old FT-470 HH, who's battery bit the dust this
weekend and I should have a mobile positioning station.
Will set it up first on the desktop and prove the concept before going
mobile.

Gday Shaun, not sure if someone has answered your questions off the lists.
but as far as im aware you cant mobile digi to improve your coverage, you
can have a fixed " mobile" digi to cover a dead spot you may have but it
must be fixed.
As to documents on the web I cant find any in a hurry ! but there are some
very simple ways to get mobile, A Tiny Track is probably the simplest,
this
is where I started. So you will need a Tiny Track, a GPS signal in NMEA (
GPS handheld with a data cable or an engine etc ) and a radio. Do a Google
on Tiny track and you will find plenty of info on them, I think there is
even some common connection diagrams on their website. Im not sure where
abouts you are based but most clubs usually have at least 1 person who at
least dabbles in APRS. If you have any more specific questions you are

than welcome to email me direct off the lists, If you have access to a
computer with a soundcard and a scanner or some other radio that will RX
on
the national frequency it is very simple to set up UIView so that you can
"
see" what is happening out there, or alternatively you connect to a APRS
server and also " see" whats happening ( Via internet )
