Hi Rory and others.. Maybee to fill in a few gaps here I can offer what
I know.. I cant remember what GPS Rory had but it did connect ok to my
Laptop DB9 and I could see the NMEA strings.. That however does not mean
that the GPS is proper RS232.. It might just have been a fluke..
Maybee Rory if you can remind us what GPS it is we might have someone
with experience on this one.. That is connecting the Rory GPS to the
Tiny Track.
In VK5 we have alot of Motorola GT Oncore GPS's hooked up to Tiny
Traks.. To do this we used a MAX232 chip as a level converter because
the Motorola GPS used 5v logic. It seems the Tiny Track needs proper
RS232 -12V and +12V ..
Before we get too carried away with level converters does anyone have
any experience with Rorys type of GPS?? I cant remember for sure but I
think it was a Magellan.. It was a handheld device.. It may be a matter
of getting the correct setting on the GPS.. I did establish that he had
4800 Baud N81 comming out of it but if the strings are not quite to spec
the Tiny Track wont looks at it..

>Hi all
>Have been trying to get my aprs going but still no luck. Still cannot get
the GPS to talk to the TNC.
>I suspect a signal level problem. With a cheap digital meteron 200Mv
range get varying signals of 12 to 35 Mv but don't know whether this is
enough for the TNC. May need an amplifier between. Does anyone know what
level is required?
>Am in Cairns & heading down to the Gold Coast for next weekend. If there
is anyone on the Gold Coast who may be able to help I would appreciate it
as don't want to give up!! Can be contacted by email rory1 at xtra.co.nz or
