[OZAPRS] Too Many HF Beacons....

Hi Richard

My apologies for the short term overload - this was only while demoing the
APRS capabilities and HF Gateway operations to the local radio group and I
had to set the beacon to transmit at a faster rate than usual for demo
purposes - unfortunately I forgot to reset -mea culpa!!

My email address is vk8lm at qsl.net (as shown on my gateway beacon)and a
short email to me would have fixed the problem. Rest assured I am well
aware of the operational protocols!

Cheers Larry vk8lm (ex vk4clm) and now resident in Renmark SA

Subject: [OZAPRS] Too Many HF Beacons....

Hi,

Note; This email is not to single out one station or another it’s
intention is to make operators aware of the impact poor operational
practices can have on other stations.

I’ve noticed that VK8LM is gating posits from VHF to HF for his local
station. This is ok (on a very limited scale) if there is no other means
of access to the APRS system. Except his local mobile is transmitting
every 30 seconds and has been stationary for several hours. This is having
a big impact on HF by overloading the HF 300bd network. If VK8LM reduces
his transmission rate to 1 posit every 10 min when mobile then it would
allow better sharing of our limited channel resource.

Here is the decoded findu raw data for VK8LM. I have been monitoring the
channel and the have been a number of transmissions that have not been
decoded but still take produce channel traffic.

VK4VP-15 is having problems in FNQland accessing APRS HF due to the HF
channel overload.

To allow the successful use of the system by all, please review the HF
operational guide lines in my previous message.
