[OZAPRS] HF Beacons Heard.

Further to what I posted yesterday, on 30m overnight I have decoded about
26 further beacons or status messages from VK3WRM. The fact that they
were not transmitted on the standard tone pair frequency is another
matter.

I have also decoded the mystery long beacon - also on the same (and wrong)
frequency. It occurs from VK3MY-3 when the station transmits a bulletin,
a position beacon, and an object (30m-GATE) as one continuous
transmission, which takes quite a while at 300 baud!

Paste - note timing at 2 seconds between these (and my PC clock creeps so
may be a little off true time) >

A slightly shorter burst occurs when this station sometimes sends a double
instead of a triple.

On a posting, Ron Perry said:

Ron, this matter as far as I can see, is not one of the individual
frequency differences between transceivers, unless a rig was so far out as
to be tiresome netting on voice SSB, or was an analogue dial rig. I think
it is more likely that the problem is that the station you have all netted
to is not using the well documented standard frequency of its tone pairs.
The tones I am chasing to decode are about 500 Hz too high, and this is
the difference (using USB) between setting your dial for 1600/1800 tones
(say a Kam or MFJ TNC) and instead using something like the 2100/2300 AGW,
or the PK232 2130/2330, tone pairs.

So without me causing a major international incident (it is usually us
Kiwis that are the butt of sheep jokes!) could I ask you Aussies to please
make sure that you tune to whatever frequency or side band that ensures
that your transmissions are on what I thought was propagated in VK as the
international 30m tone pair frequencies of 10.149.200 and 10.149.400?

The same problem doesnt seem to occur on 40m, I have successfully decoded
VK4BBS on the same frequency setting as I get ZL stations - I am set to
what I take it to be the transtasman standard tones of 7.037.600 and
7.037.800 ie a dial setting of 7.036 LSB with a 1600/1800 TNC. Or is
there activity on other 40m frquencies in VK? I dont think that there is
a world wide standard frequency for APRS on 40m.

To the other Ron - I look forward to hearing mobile 40m traffic at the
weekend. I know Bracken Ridge, we had relations living near there and
visited them many times until they separated a few years ago.

Noel, ZL3GR.
