[OZAPRS] What's Happened to HF APRS in VK?

Hi Brian / Chris

Thanks for the update.

We initialy used 30mtrs for APRS here to get HF APRS up and running but
found the same problems as yourself with 'close in' stations so we set up
a
40mtr APRS network as well. This combination works very well for near and
far APRS communications on HF.

The frequancies chosen were based on limited local knowledge for 40mtrs
hence 7.039Mhz but we do get some 'interferance' on this frequancy from a
BBS in NSW. We used 10.149Mhz as it appeard not to be used localy and did
not feel comftable using 10.151Mhz as it was too close to the band edge
and
this became confusing for most operators.

I beleive it would be great to have a Nationally agreed APRS frequancy
for
both 30mts and 40 mtrs.

What we do need for HF APRS is a consistant reliable system National where
base Gate stations are running 24*7 365 days of the year. Once that
happens
and the HF network is avalible you will find that mobile HF APRS stations
will start to appear. We also need a Good User Guide on how to set you
your
path, Posit TX timing and transmission lengths etc. Taking into account
the
slower data rates and band conditions etc. Chris's web page is a good
starting point.

VK3BYD-15 is anticipating the VK4DMI to be operational on 30mtrs for
testing
when he is back on air.

Cheers
Richard
