Norm,
Is this for a station transmitting to the birds? My gut feeling is that
with the proliferation of satgate station directly forwarding to the
aprs-is there's no need for anything except ARISS. My satgate directly
feeds the aprs-is so "terrestrial" paths are meaningless. I think the
SGATE part is redundant today because most (all?) satgates directly feed
the aprs-is. If I had to digi via another station to get to the aprs-is
I imagine that a terrestrial path such as WIDE2-1 (amended as
appropriate for local circumstances) would still be required. It's
possible (probable?) that the use of paths like GATE and SGATE are a
throwback to earlier days of packet/aprs that preceded the spread of
economical and widely available internet connections when terrestrial
VHF/UHF links were used to get to a gateway station.
Maybe the SIAS approach is the way to go. Try the path you've provided
and gradually eliminate bits to arrive at the minimum requirement for
you; probably just ARISS.
