[OZAPRS] Status of the HF network ?

Hi all,

I recently travelled around Oz (well up the middle and then down the west coast returning to Melbourne across the bottom).

I used APRSDroid and a PK232 (Bluetooth RS232 adapter) coupled with a Codan X2.

I am only a standard, so had to stick to 40m. I had more luck pinging into APRS-IS. We are really limited in 40cm iGates.

I also submitted patches to APRSDroid to bring in compressed packets and used that rather than the uncompressed packet model it uses out of the Google Play store.

Worked well when I could hit an iGate.

I rarely received stuff, I probably needed a more stable TNC.

Thanks,

Matty

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for the information. I really like the concept, because it is "tried and tested" and just a couple of "clicks" away.
I have most bits at home and will order the UDRC II at the first opportunity.

I have it running in my car with both VHF and HF radios and it works well. Have a look at my blog entry for details: http://vk3il.net/projects/raspberry-pi-based-aprs-trackerdigipeaterigate/
