Re HF Packet length ....

I've always accepted that HF packets do seem to take longer than might 
be expected.

I've thought the reason was that since HF packet operates at 300 BPS, a 
position report containing a given amount of information will take four 
times as long to transmit at 300 bps as it would at the 1200bps we may 
be more used to.

But then I could be wrong.

Then there is the possible additional matter of whether the packet is 
compressed or not.
