Hi David

Yes that is correct AGWPE (pro or standard do not do X-port digiing - 
AGWUIdigi  does.)  In my configuration I only use AGWPE to interface to the 
radios and to feed data to other client software (ui-view, AGW Tracker, 
Xastir).  I use Digi_ned to do all the heavy lifting - it is very 
configurable and multi platform.  I suggest you have a look at it and if you 
wish to go down the path of establishing a full blown igate then I can help 
with configs etc.

At the moment my setup is a real hybrid:

Radios:         HF 2 x Codan 8528 (30m & 40m)
                    VHF Motorola GM300
Interfaces:     VHF HF MFJ 1270B TNC (AGWPE)
                    30m HF SCS Tracker/DSP TNC (AGWPE)
                    40m HF Griffen Imic to PC soundcard (AGWPE)
Client software: Digi_Ned (main HF/VHF gateway)
                        : Ui-view (APRS server interface, home network 
processing)
                        : AGWTracker (home network processing)

All software is loaded on a dedicated 12V PC ( Windows XP ) which runs 24/7. 
I have the intention of porting the whole shebang to Linux but that is in 
the future perhaps. The whole shack is run on a rather large battery bank 
which can provide about 7 days power without recharging.

I have no doubt that there are much more sophisticated and cleaner/tidier 
ways of setting up an Igate but it works for me!
