I've never had any trouble with ones that have either chipset...

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0557:2008 ATEN International Co., Ltd UC-232A
Serial Port [pl2303]

Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices
International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC

All of the ones I have are generic, so there's no actual brand name to
mention.
