I think you will find that the OEM is http://www.compactpc.com.tw/ebox-2300.htm

My reading of the specs is that the 3A is needed only so there are no voltage dips on HDD startup. 

Dave: Some of these devices, (particularly the ones with unusual CPU's)  will not run ___BSD due to lack of drivers.
