You got a router ?

  Scott,
  the fixed IP addreess thing can usually be sorted out by using something like dyndns.com. You just need a script to send it an update any time yours may change.

  Look at  http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/ddns.html .

    Over the last couple of weeks I've been rebuilding my I-Gate. As I'm a Linux user, I've now settled on JavAPRSSrv for the software for the Hobart I-Gate, I was previously using APRSD (2.2.5-13) but with a recent desktop upgrade to an AMD64 capable system I was having some issues running APRSD in x86_64 (64bit) so hence the move to the Java platform! I've now separated the I-Gate from my desktop and it's now running on a dedicated PC (i386) for the job (an old IBM NetVista Celeron 2.2GHz 768MB RAM Ubuntu 9.04) this should result in longer uptime!

    There are some benefits with using javAPRS as I now have it set up like the Aust. T2 servers with state based ports and the like! I was going to apply to become another T2 server however, a requirement is that a fixed IP be used. This is the area I don't fore fill so I've shelved that idea for now!

    The status page is viewable at http://www.vk7hse.hobby-site.org:14501

    Should anyone wish to connect to it, don't resolve by IP, use DNS instead! (vk7hse.hobby-site.org)

    Also the other changes to my station are...

    VK7HSE-1 is no longer!
    VK7HSE-2 WX station (XASTIR 1.9.5)
    VK7HSE-3 I-Gate & WIDE1-1 digi
    VK7HSE-4 Digi_NED (0.39) HF Gateway (40m -> 2m)
    VK7HSE-9  When I'm out'n'bout!
    VK7HSE-7 no longer, replaced by HSE-4

    That's about it...
