Sounds very familiar.  Solutions to this were discussed on the Xastir
mailing list.  I'm fairly sure I was involved; I remember getting my
editor into the relevant code.  From memory the problem is that the
Ubuntu build of a dependency differs from what Xastir project thought it
should be, and the Ubuntu (Debian?) packaging of Xastir hasn't yet taken
that into account with a patch.

Search the Xastir Wiki for Ubuntu references.

Might be an idea to log it with Ubuntu (or Debian) so that they patch
Xastir to compensate for the difference.
