Ben,

I've compiled xastir on both Kubuntu and Debian so can provide pointers 
for you if you want the latest and greatest. I even got smart and 
documented my most recent Debian compile which worked first up. I run 
xastir as both a HF gate and an Igate. Yell off list if you need help. 
The same system also runs fbb and fpac.
