Gidday all,
Just to let all APRS operators in SEQ know what is happening with the IGates
in our little part of the world.

The RX IGates are progressively be decommissioned now that VK4OG-1 has
become quite stable, and its coverage has been well proven. We are
fortunate that Mick has a brilliant location that can hear just about all of
the WIDE coverage digipeaters in SEQ.

So, the plan now is to turn off the multiple RX IGates in SEQ, leaving them
ready to activate in case something goes awry at Mick's place. Thanks to
Merv (VK4ZE) and Gordon (VK4VP) who have already deactivated their RX
IGates. Gordon has kept his station going as a fill in digi for the time
being, with the hope that this is not required once the antenna situation at
Radar Hill is improved. We will have to wait for about a month for David
(VK4UN) to return from his travels in WA (check out his track on HF APRS -
VK4UN-15, pretty cool), before his IGate can be deactivated.

As always, the success of this endeavour will depend on all APRS operators
taking note of a few pointers, that is, keep a eye on your beaconing rate
while mobile (if you have SmartBeaconing, enable it), and ensure that your
mobile UNPROTO path is WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2. Fixed stations, WIDE2-2 is all you
need (in fact WIDE2-1 will probably work OK as well). These settings will
minimise the traffic on VHF, allowing mobiles to be heard by a digi
somewhere without being clobbered by a rampant station ;-))...

Additionally, if you think that you are not being gated for any reason,
please get in touch, there is a wealth of experience on this list who will
be more than happy to help out.

The http://vk4.aprs.net.au website has been recently updated with the latest
digi and Igate details for VK4.

Regards,
Peter Schrader,
