[OZAPRS] first.aprs.net.au issues

G'day Carl, how's things ???

first and second have identical configurations on the server end, so it
shouldn't be anything different there causing the issues. . . . (Not that
I can verify this though at the moment. . . .)

I can't see anything in the errorlog on the server end, as it only logs
OUTBOUND errors (not inbound).
The server sends KeepAlive packets at 30 second intervals, so you should be
seeing some data coming back.

The only possiblity I can think of is that the KeepAlive from second was
slightly less than 30 seconds, and since your end seems to have a 30 second
timer it's just bad luck that they are timing out.
You could try increasing your Timeout to 35 seconds (inactivityTime) and see
if that helps. . . . .
