[OZAPRS] Aust Govt maps download struggle

I saw that link fly past from Norm I think regards the free downloadable
maps from the govt.. All  good .. I found the web site and registered
and downloaded some maps..

I probably didnt get the correct maps. Ive tried the shapefiles under
xastir but didnt get anywhere.. What map type/format did you find works?
I just assumed the shapefiles would work as they are supported by
xastir. What did I do wrong ?
