You don't need to login as uucp... just add the uucp group to the  
groups that your user is already a  member of.  This can be done from  
the command line with 'vigr' (editing /etc/group directly) or with  
Fedora's User Manager tool by double clicking your user name, and on  
the "Groups" tab of the user properties adding the uucp group to your  
groups.

1. Do you have 'Allow RF->Inet and Inet->RF traffic' box ticked on  
the Interface Control window for the TNC?
2. Make sure the UnProto Path for Igate -> RF Path is set to a  
reasonable value.  For RF->Inet you normally want one or no hops to  
prevent spreading the data too far.
3. Do you have the callsign(s) you want to gate to RF (or a wildcard  
match of the ones you want) listed in your ~/.xastir/data/nws- 
stations.txt file, one per line?
