[OZAPRS] 6M APRS

*real* AWA carphones are very long in the tooth now, with the FM700
series being the last Australian manufactured units. When AWA decided to
import Japanese radios and rebadge them, I moved to the Newcastle
manufactured Communico. Having had my hands on a few RT80's since then,
I consider my move to have been a wise one. I had a couple of FM700's on
VHF and a couple on UHF but was never considered wasting money on
crystals for a 6m conversion of a mid-band unit. The FM700 had a pre-set
mute (with a defeat button) with terrible performance. The front-end
design was good (no RF stage, helical filter front-end) but the back end
(IF, detector and mute) let them down. I had around 80 mid-band units in
service on the Central Coast and in Sydney we had hundreds of hi-band
units.
