If you have any doubts, here is the latest traffic stats, comparing QLD
and
VIC.

You can see how an untuned network can get out of hand.

Packets orginated.

Hi Mark,
	Thanks for this info.

At this point in time the gating of the north QLD traffic does not cause
me
any problems. Further down the track if the network here was busier it
may.
But we can wait and see what happens.

VK4OG is excellent in the SE QLD network. Without the Igate, driving from
the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane means you have virtually no chance of being
gated to the net until you are well into Brisbane.

I do notice when the digi is running that a lot of local traffic is being
unnecessarily repeated, maybe due to the excellent location of the digi or
some settings that may need changing to prevent this. It may be better to
leave the digi off air and just have an Igate.

I am no expert but would like to co operate to ensure we get good APRS
coverage in SEQ, if that means changing what I think is right for the
greater good so be it.

Is it right that you have to gate the North QLD traffic to RF down here to
be able to send messages between the two areas. I was of the assumption
that messages would go via a "local" IGate and pop out at another Igate
that
serves the "other" station.

I certainly appreciate the efforts of Mick and those involved.

Regards Gordon VK4VP

Gday

My Name is Tony Tomlinson VK4HOG the son of VK4OG. I am
wondering what the problem is with my father running a APRS Digi at his
home
and gating surrounding information to the internet as well as gating North
Qld data around Brisbane on RF. What I can't understand is that someone in
the greater Brisbane area needs to gate the information to the internet
why
not him. Without this digi and the gateway, no messages can be sent
between
North Qld and South East Qld via APRS. Up here something like 11 Digi's
are
running with 2 gateways, (one a backup) within a 500Km radius from
Gladstone
to Proserpine and West to Emerald, without problems and all SE Qld traffic
is also gated to RF. Maybe you should take the time to thank him and all
the
others involved in getting this excellent service up and running rather
than
complaining about the unapparent affect, it has on you and the proceedings
of your endeavors as stated in previous threads on this forum. As mention
in
previous threads that no data was gated while traveling south until the
Brisbane airport area was reached, yet VK4OG-1 covers from the Sunshine
Coast into Brisbane. I don't see the problem. The only reason the gateway
was down was he was away from home and had network issues and it was
rectified as soon as he got home.

                  Regards Tony Tomlinson VK4HOG
