"Peek" and "poke" are BASIC commands, but I assume what you're
really asking is whether you can do bit-twiddling with Linux.  Yep,
you can.  You need some I/O with digital outputs like a parallel
printer port or specifically some sort of digital I/O board.
Another way to play with I/O in this manner is to use the
handshaking pins on serial ports.
