On my motorcycle I use

A Buddipole arm, coil and 3 section shock-corded whip for on road use. Off

road, I replace the 3 section shock corded whip, with a Commercial VHF Low

Band tapered s/steel whip/ferrule and spring (obtainable at any two way 
radio shop) and change coil taps to retune.
I also use a s/steel spring on the base as well, which are mirror mount 
parts from the old CB days.
