Make sure it is the CPU.
I've had similar problms with a 2500+. Over the last couple of months it
started becoming difficult to boot and taking several reboot cycles to
get up and running after installing software upgrades. Having been shut
down for a few days recently (while building/configuring a new machine)
it wouldn't boot so I changed the HDD. Now it continually boots up, runs
from a few seconds to a few minutes then reboots.
I was able to obtain a new Socket A motherboard, put the CPU in and it
runs fine.
On close inspection I found every 6.3v electrolytic on the board was
split open on top and leaking. All the 10v and 16v ones are fine. Seems
mobos of this particular brand (Soltek) and vintage were assembled with
some bad electros. Obviously they didn't kindly to running my IGATE and
Echolink 24/7 for 2+ years. The case now has an extractor fan.
Would be nice to repair the board (it has 2 com ports) but I can't find
any 3300uf 6.3v that are 10mm diameter. Smallest available are 12.5mm
and wont fit in the space available. Have you noticed that all the new
boards have just 1 Com port or none at all? USB to RS232 cables seem to
work OK fortunately.
