For your info this is what kantronics Tech support send me regarding the
mark and space tones
The AFSK tones transmitted on HF by the KAM XL are defined by its
commands MARK, SPACE, and SHIFT.
In Packet mode the Mark tone defaults to 2125 Hz, and the Space tone
defaluts to 2295 Hz.
But you can set those tones to any one between 50 and 4000 Hz, as long
as Space is a higher frequency tone than Mark.
If you set the SHIFT command to MODEM, the Mark and Space tone settings
will be used in all two-tone HF modes.
Some of the older KAM models used different default tones for HF packet.
They used 1600 Hz for mark and 1800 for space, but they could also be
set to any tones between 50 and 4000 Hz.
You might say that the range of tones settings can be 50 to 3999 for
mark, and 51 to 4000 for space, in the KAMs.
