MessageHi Ron,
tnx info and help.
I do not see any ISS Signals any more for some days and do not know the
reason. I guess they are experimenting with STTV on 2m at ISS and have
switched APRS off for the moment.
However it is good to have at least some good signals into DARWIN on 10MHz
to VK8ZAB.
But still there are times when we travel for 5 hours and send every 5 min
an APRS beacon and do not seem to come into a gate.
We will continue transmit on 30m and occasionally use ISS passes.

vy 73 de Mike in Kununurra, WA

Hi Mike, we hope you are enjoying your stay in Australia, I have seen
your APRS Icon throughout today,

Your Signal is being IGated by VK8ZAB-4 who is a Receive Only HF Gate.

We regularly receive vk3my-4, vk2kcm-1 and have received vk4dmi-4 today.

We continue to monitor both 30M and ISS Passes.

  Ron,

ISS works great but 10MHz HF seems to be lousy at this moment. I receive
only very few 300baud packet on our tour in WA.

I will continue till 1. September.

  tnx fer your help.

Dear Mike, we would be pleased to be able to help if we can.

I have improved our 30M antenna from a non-resonant wire near the
ground to a Horizontal 30M full wavelength loop and will attempt to get it
higher into the air.

At this time we can receive APRS 300bd Packet from Melbourne on
10.147,6 Mhz USB from VK3MY-4 .

400 Km South of us in Brisbane is another 30M APRS gateway VK4DMI-4 on
10.147,6 Mhz which we cannot receive due to them being in our skip zone.

Our equipment at this time is a Yaesu FT-707 and a KAM + Packet Modem
using AGWPE+ UISS 5.0.1+ UI-View connected into the aprs.net.au APRS
Internet Server.

ISS 145.800 Mhz receive is on an AOR AR-2002 Scanning receiver into
the KAM+ on 1200 Baud.

The area you will be traveling in Western Australia would be for most
ISS passes outside the ground footprint area for both yourself and us on
the East Coast of Australia.

Other ISS VHF Gateway stations may be within the ISS ground footprint
for your Western Australian part of your journey.

    Hello Ron,

tnx fer nice and informative answer abt. APRS on ISS or HF.

I would really need someone "GATEing" my APRS positions into the
internet from 22. Juli till 2. Sept.2006.

I plan to travel from PERTH to Broome, Darwin and ALICE.

My equipment would be a YAESU FT100 HF/VHF machine with 100 HF and 50W
on VHF and 35W on UHF,

connected to a TinyTrack3 and/or the new TRAKKER from SCS.

I would run HF-APRS with 300 Baud on 10.151 LSB (or 10.147,6 USB,
either way the same-hi) and

1200Baud APRS on VHF or ISS (depending on your advice,
145.800/145.990))

It would be very helpful (wonderful) if you could support our 4WD trip
by setting up an additional HF-Gate (rx-only) on HF and/or ISS relaying
our position reliably into the internet for this six weeks.

Please let me know how you think about this and if I could be of some
help to you by providing software or guidelines?

    (simple HF-Gate: Antenna+SSB-RX+ Soundcard+ AGWPacketengine
+UiView32+internet APRS server)

you could call me on skype (oe3mzc) or via Echolink on node 6406

Hi Mike, often I gate the ISS APRS data from a scanning receiver to
the APRS Internet Servers.

Your Western Australia and Northern Territory travel is well beyond
VHF range to

my location here at Burnett Heads, near Bundaberg which is located
400km north of Brisbane on the East Coast of Australia.

I will need to know when you will be travelling?

And the frequencies you will be using?.

My APRS Gate is unofficial and is not a full time operation.

If I can help you i can gate your HF or VHF data to the APRS
Internet Servers.

        Dr Ron,

do you operate an APRS gateway with ISS on VHF??

Since I am planning to travel WA I am very interested to send my
GPS position via HF or VHF.

Can you give me some guidelines for using your GATE from PERTH to
DARWIN and ALICE.?

        tnx
