[OZAPRS] AX25 under Debian sending non APRS packets

Hi all,

Many thanks for all the responses.

A couple of things that I omitted in my first email.

My home network is 192.168.0.* and my ax25 network is 192.168.1.*

I actually don't need an IP address on the ax0 interface, but kissattach
requires an ip address as the ax25 software treats the interface as a
TCP/IP interface. The more I played with it the more I realised how easy
it would be to set up a local network over radio, something I'd like to
do, but my first priority is not to spam the 145.175 with DHCP or SAMBA
announcements ;-)

I discovered ax25mond which creates a socket (default port 1234) which
allows you to telnet into that socket, either locally or from another
machine and recieve the raw ax25 data through telnet. I left ax25mond
running and telneted into that port. Much of the data appears to be binary
and I can't interpret it, but there is enough text in the stream to
satisfy me that it is a local Samba running on that machine that is
advertising it's existance to all attached interfaces. I've configed Samba
to only use the 192.168.0.* network. There may be some other services
doing 'offers' as well, so I'll need to do some detective work there.

But running Samba or ftp over VHF would be interesting...very slow though!

As to my other question about non root access to ax0, I searched the /dev/
directories and couldn't find ax0, but then nor was eth0 so I'm not sure
if those interfaces appear in /dev

ax0 certainly appears in ifconfig.

Anyway, thank you for all the responses to date,

Regards,
Craig
