[OZAPRS] VK1/VK2 network issues

Hi Damian,

Conditions over the past week have been very favourable for extended VHF
communications so this may have contributed to the increased traffic.

Though from the data you have here I’d suggest a few things:

First, so you can really understand what is happening get a few mobile
operators to use a path of RELAY,TRACE2-2

That’s assuming that all the digi’s support TRACEn-n (This is why the VK3
digis have a path of TRACE2-2)

Then use UIPATH to do a live ‘path trace’ plot of the network overlayed on
UI-View.

Second educate the users to use a shorter path. For mobiles RELAY,WIDE2-2
should be the longest path that is needed in VK1/VK2. For Home stations
they would need to use a dedicated path to the closest IGate and maybe add
a wide to the end of it.

Third check the configuration of all the digipeaters to make sure they
comply to the local digipeater parameter guides.

Forth analyse the data collected and monitored from UIPATH and adjust the
digipeater parameter guides and user path guides as appropriate.

And lastly if after some network analysis and management there are still
lots of dups in the RF system look at reducing/changing the coverage
patterns of some of the digipeaters.

You could also set up a few RXOnly IGates then you can reduce the path to
RELAY,WIDE

Worked of us southerners :-)

Cheers

Richard
