I bought a dc-dc converter from jaycar for under $90, only just cheaper
than
a small inverter but less hassle. Some inverters have problems with low
volts and complain (warning beper) unless the car is running. I saw the
design in silicon chip, but was not impressed with the power output - or
lack of it. I would pay the little extra to get one pre-made. Mine puts
out
3.5A at 19v (ACER laptop).
Steve.
