I find I need to be in a very strong signal area for it to work, encode or decode. Only in the last few days I've been reading up on adjusting levels via the service mode, I'm planning on trying this to see if it helps my situation, I'm over in ZL at present and have only got a few beacons out in total... Had it running all over the north island. There are three models for Yaesu's VX-8 series, although I <u>think</u>
only two of them appear to have officially made it to Australia.
There is a VX-8DR and a VX-8GR and they are different. <br>

I have the VX-8GR and that has worked for me whenever I've used it,
including (very occasionally) in the greater Brisbane and Canberra
areas, as well as its native SA. It's been a while since I
actually 'fiddled' with the settings, so I'd need to clue up on what
might be required for the '8GR - which is the only one I have any
experience with. In this I was almost certainly helped by the
fact that I had been experimenting with APRS and packet radio in
general for a very long time, so I had a fair grounding in what was
needed in TNC settings, paths and stuff like that. <br>

However, be assured that it <u>should</u> work; you are obviously
half way there - perhaps even further than that ......<br>
