class="gmail_quote">Hi All....heard one of the local ops
talking about aprs from his Iphone..
i also heard it could be done with a Android based phone
i have a HTC Wildfire phone and did some searching of the net
and found aprsdroid
a program to send aprs packets to APRS-IS...uses the internal
GPS function
used my phone and found it and d/l and installed it

very easy to set up...
it has 2 modes...one shot and tracking...
the one shot just sends one packet....very handy for checking
if you have your set up correct
the 'start tracking' sends the packets to APRS-IS at the time
in your config
it works very very well.....
as im 20km north of the main city of Townsville i turned it on
and put the phone in its pouch on my belt
about 5 and half hours later on returning home i was able to
see the track on Xastir
of course i had to use 'stop tracking' else it would keep on
sending while on the shack bench

a great way to have a tracker without having to get all the
hardware and mount it in the new car

there is also a APRS Viewer available.....very beta ..needs
some more work

FYI...Echolink is also available for droids
