[OZAPRS] "To" field

Hi Norm,

I was tearing my hair out to understand what the To field actually meant.

After digging through the docs, it is the version and software details in most cases. It is used to work out what sort of client is being used by the originator and is often decoded in some software and also on aprs.fi

As to why this is changing on the setup below... I am not sure!

Thanks,

Matty VK3MJM

Subject: [OZAPRS] "To" field

Returning to APRS after a small hiatus. I'm running the local iGate VK3WRM-5. xastir on an r-pi, Tiny2, FM828. All pretty bog stansard I would guess!
Mobile is an old Garmin GPS12 and D-700.

Watching a number (quite a number!) of packets as I set up and fine tune things, something caught my eye. The first fiel in the string following the "from" callsign seems to change. I always thought this was generated by the TNC/Tracker .

On the other hand, VK3WRM is constant at APX204
Where does this field originate, how is it generated and is there usefull data encoded?
