Scott

You probably don’t know my back ground

I started in ham radio 30 years ago

I have been designing circuits for 20 years

I have been programming up cell towers and coding for 10 years

I have 10 years in RADAR , ILS, DME, VOR, COMS, GLS, ADS-B, SATELLITES, uWave links, GPS.

I hold both Ham Radio and Aviation Radio Qualifications

I am an accomplished fixed wing and chopper pilot

I fly RC planes and Drones ( big ones )

This is chicken feed for me – I taught myself LINUX and perl and CGI

I am currently studying LoRa and CHIRP modulation.

If I had my way we would be using software defined hand held radios that we develop new firmware for.

APRS was born in the USA is old school for me – I just stick to it “cause there is inftastructure”

My idea of APRS is the space station.

I am interested in multi constellation GPS and high update rates.

I am working on a full time ISS ground station and Falconsat as well.

I get bored talking to myself on ISS

Andrew,

The only thing you may encounter is if your 5v PSU doesn’t keep a steady 5v you may suffer from USB errors or reboots/freezes ... Basically the typical shenanigans for a Raspberry Pi 😊

There’s no difference in the setup for using a 4G USB dongle on the Raspberry Pi that is done on any current Linux distro...

I still don't get what you're after.

You want to send raw NMEA to where?

You certainly can't send raw NMEA into APRS-IS. (Unless you send it as a comment, but why?!!)

The APRS position format does have limited resolution yes, but it is good enough for most applications (unless you absolute MUST know what side of the road that car is on...).

I have an IPhone and iPad

I want to send RAW NMEA

As APRS degrades the position and dumps reports

Andrew,

If you have an Android phone then you could use Aprsdroid on the phone.

Is anyone using a Raspberry Pi with a 4G dongle and GPS to end APRS ?
