Hey Mark

There was nothing in site - we did have a local unit but had no 3g coverage
to upload it.

So this is no mean feat to get approx. 2200km on 500mw
Wonder how we go to get this distance mentioned anwhere

Good job with that launch, we were contacted by that magazine a while ago,
but they didn't seem to realise just how far Cairns was away from
Adelaide...

I did notice you weren't being gated through much of the flight, only the
high bits - I guessed you had local tracking running.

Anyway, I've done a bit more investigating, and the longest path we got off
the mildura launches was 634km, at 33187km altitude, from
-33.4279,142.79448 to -35.37827,149.28881 (VK2YYZ-5).

All this is moot though, as there's probably been longer paths from ducting,
it's just you don't often see them as duplicate packets wouldn't be recorded
on the APRS-IS network...

The unit had 500mw and reached 36.888 Km above the earth (3rd Highest
Payload in Au)
Here is the video - you can see the antenna we had underneath the payload

I think Project Horus has done 150km max. Mainly because all the APRS
digi's/igates near us are in Adelaide, and we launch from there... Dunno
about the other ballooning groups - is Robert Brand on this list?

We've had >600km ranges on our 25mW 70cm RTTY payload though...
