Gary,

The AX25 specification calls for upper case letters in a callsign. 
Although I can't quickly find reference in the AX25 Specification 
Manual, I expect that would also apply to an alias.

Have you tried with upper case addressing?

Or, it could be, as you've suggested, you heard but were not heard.

I would have thought that ARISS would be enough to be digied by the ISS. 
My satgate port in Xastir doesn't have an alias, it simply gates 
anything it hears on 145.825 to the internet. I don't send anything back 
to RF.
