[OZAPRS] Packet uses...

Hi All,
Couldn't have put it better myself. I got out of wicen years ago and
for those exact reasons. To me they seem to be alienating and ignoring
the very resources that are there to help them, that is, the bulk of
amateurs.

Howard,
There are a few attempts at improving and automating the "emergency
traffic" handling message systems that get touted about on packet. They
all seem to have reliance on the internet rather than radio but there is
one that uses the standard email software (thunderbird, outlook, etc)
and a set of pre formatted forms. It then sends only the form number and
the content over the link and reconstitutes the message at the receiving
end. Seems to be a good idea and is suited for radio operation on 1200
or 300bps using the packet system. It can interface at either end to the
internet if required..
I haven't used it other than a quick 5 minute play but the concept seems
ok and at least it gets away from relying totally on the very
infrastructure that disappears in an emergency situation.

Can't think of it's name at the moment but if you like I can go back
through the packet mail list and find it.
                                                                                                Regards Tony VK3API
