Here Here to that. As a Scout all those many years ago we ran a ROSE BBS
in sydney and looked at links in Newcastle but came to the same problem,
Gov Cost for site access.
I would love to see Packet run again, it has such potential. It has been
from I can tell been part of the HCC used by Wicen in a limited direct
link type form. I would LOVE to see it come back online in some form or
another.
And for those to say that only the oldies would want it back, I am only 36.
The one thing I want to get into is a Portable-Remote APRS Igate/Digi.
My Father-in-Law lives out towards Roma in Western QLD and there is NO
aprs out there, I travel up there a lot and thought there has to be a
way I can setup a portable Digi/iGate using Tel$tra NextG USB stick and
having personal trackers as well as car for when I visit and play up
there as well as other places but it is hard to get real good
information on what others may or may not have done. I joined this list
to see if I could find some of that but alias it hasn't come just more
of this complaining over some words in an email.
The one thing I would love to get into and get a movement going again is
FoxHunting and ARDF in Sydney, I have been given Jeff Pages vk2byy to
contact but all the searching I have done even QRZ I can't find any
email address to send him an email.
Getting the young involved in ARDF and Foxhunting with things like
APRS tracking so that they can see where they have been and see the
others tracks after the event is a way to get them involved and maybe
just maybe they will be the next generation to keep APRS going, I can't
see the internet at this point putting it out of business like it did
with Packet.
Any pointers or advice people would like to offer would be greatly
appreciated.
