Hi Dave,

The solution is in your hands, and not just through berating the 
unknowing. In the Thunderbird email client a plug-in called 
quotecollapse can be installed. By default, it shows all the unquoted 
text of a message, and collapses any quoted text down to one line. Then 
you have the option to open up some or all of the quoted text. 
Top-posting, bottom-posting, over-quoting is not a worry any more. Works 
brilliantly. More here:
