[OZAPRS] APRS 101 guide for newbies & 2 hops vs 3 hops

G'day all on the list, 

Just a couple more questions from a newbie...

1. I see the default for WIDE1-1 WIDE2-1 on the TM-D710A is two hops. It looks like there was a bit of a network outage or similar yesterday in Western VK3 for a few hours so I've changed the radio to 3 hops. Does going to 3 hops put extra load on the network? Most of my travel will be in VK3 and VK5. 

2. Does anyone have a link to something like an APRS 101 or APRS for Newbies at all? Either a VK or international version would probably do. 

I'm using VK3BA-9
