Something else to consider re the FM828, the tx is continuously rated
for full power to 60°C (about the temperature of your hot water service
at home), a serious consideration for a busy digi or voice repeater.

The FM814 (VHF) and FM815 (UHF) base stations are continuously rated.
The rx and the exciter in the 814/815 are from the FM828 mobile,
testimony to the rx performance of the 828.

The Philips FM92 is not continuously rated and very quickly starts to
sag. The FM91, with the external PA housing is continuously rated.

The Tait T500 series are a good radio but the tx is not continuously
rated. The T700 is, from memory, but the T2020 series is not.

I've not seen an AR rig for 2m that's continuously rated.

Don't underestimate the tx duty cycle of your digi installation.

A bit of trivia.
When AWA released their BST50 base station back in the 70's, the rx was
all solid state, using germanium front-end transistors - the AFZ12, for
those old enough to remember those early VHF devices. Those receivers
were so much of a disaster that the BST50B was released, with a valve
front-end. Even with a crystal filter ahead of the rx, the all solid
state unit could not cope at mildly busy sites. The STC 152 base fared
no better. How come my employer always bought junk base stations - too
many free lunches? I finally found heaven when we bought FM814's. We
already had about 40 FM815's in service in our Sydney sites. Sydney was
UHF with multiple sites, multiple channels and, voting, Gosford/Wyong
was VHF with three channels and three sites, originally half-duplex and
later talk-through repeater.

(Happy to post..) I swapped my FM800 for a tait somethingorother many years ago, so haven't had any use for it since ;)
