Howard,
We had an 828 as the first radio for our digi at Radar Hill
VK4RSR-3. It was interfaced through the mic connector on the back.

It was as deaf as a post and others had said similar things after we swapped
it out.

The club bought an FR-1900R from HRO for approx $180 and it works so much
better.

When you factor in all the mucking around and purchase of crystals I don't
think those cheap old radios are really worth it.

This was our experience.

Regards,
Gordo VK4VP

Subject: [OZAPRS] FM828

The Tablelands Amateur Radio Club has agreed to put up a digipeater to
link to ours in Cairns (VK4RIK-3) and is offering an FM828 for the job.
One of our members will supply a TNC but before they get crystals for
the FM828 we need to check if there are any issues.

Has anyone used an FM828 for a digi? If so, can you please give me
details on the interface to the TNC and any other info that may be useful?

Thanks,

Howard
