Gents

For what's it's worth the SSID's can be filtered and routed, but icons can't ... So what that means if every one sticks to the SSID you can do things like IGate all mobiles "vk3*-9" which is useful, and less object like digi objects that are not sent to RF.

Also on the rx side in programs like uiview you can look at a very busy screen and simply enter a filter to find certain ssid's

You are correct, a number of Igates and digi's are not using the correct SSID's, sometimes this is operator choice, sometimes it's because one ham is supplying many digi's ( vk3cv-1, -2, -3) and needs more SSID's

In summary, it doesn't matter, but you run the risk if being filtered out of an igate or screen or digi. Aprs like all ham radio is self regulating under a legal framework.

It seems a simple thing to do, so why not do it or offer to educate those who make mistakes

Pete
