All ok Stuart,

The other thing is that you dont really need to run 100w. I generally run 30-50 odd watts on 30m .. That helps a bit if you have any RF feedback type problems occuring as well.

What sort of vehicle are you driving ?

Hi Andrew, it looks like i will have to earth the transceiver and put some ferrites on again which i have, never thought this would be an issue again,
  Many thanks.

  Stuart

  Gday Stuart,

Looks like your mobile HF setup there is almost identical to mine , other than the you are using a TT4 by the looks and Im still using the older TT3. Unfortunately I cant help you with the TT4 settings. If all is ok you should get into a 30m HFgate pretty easilly. ( Most of the time ) .. I use a cut down , heavilly modified 27Mhz CB whip for 30m aprs around town. ( It fits under the carport without having to remove it ! ) I can generally get into an interstate Igate somewhere while parked under the carport. It really does amaze me sometimes as to how good 30m is generally, we have a pretty good dispersement of Igates on 30m these days , which makes it all the better. Just one last thing. When I originally set things up in the landcruiser, I had a bad RF feedback problem that made the decoding of my aprs transmissions very unreliable. Ended up fixing that by earthing evering I could, to the car body, as well as using a number of clip on ferrites on all audio / power / head cables etc.

Hi David, thanks for this i have not used 40m to date mainly concentrated on 30m i assume it is on 7036 USB.

I find my position reporting over long distances to be very reliable on 40m in some locations. eg Simpson desert posits every few minutes. Locally from Townsville all the way to Mt Isa on 40m worked great. However the key to it is getting the most reliable decoding of your signal by the igates, which requires quite a bit of finesse on the settings, and unfortunately trial and error seems to be the most effective for me.

Hi Gordon, yes i keep thinking HF will be the same as VHF APRS but we should be understanding of propagation, it is frustrating but i have been a great believer and follower of HF over the years.

              Stuart,
That is working fine. The vagaries of HF mean that gating can be all over the place depending on propagation. Look at the posits of VK4UN-15 or VK4KEL -15 as they have both been/are travelling around oz. There are some big patches of no beacons and the only explanation is propagation.

Hi Gordon, thanks for your quick response i have been able to monitor via AGW tracker HF live and on APRS.fi and it appears ok, i have not set up up an Igate and don't wish to at this stage, i did a small, trip this afternoon but was not convinced the signal was getting into the Igates ok, have lookat Vk5ade-14, i had to change the ssid so i could differ between the 2 trackers, i have been running VHF ok for some time now with no problems.
              Kind regards,
              Stuart Vk5ade

                Stuart,
Have you listened to the TX audio on another radio. A bit of distortion etc can cause it not to be gated.
How do you mean it works on the bench?
Have you set up your own HF IGate and it works?
                Regards,
                Gordo VK4VP

Hi group, i am still having issues setting up either TT3plus or TT4 on HF mobile Icom 706 Mk2g, i have checked my settings against our local APRS VK settings and can not see why it should not work, they both work here on the bench OK. Is it possible for somebody to email the settings either one would do.
                Regards,
                Stuart Vk5ade
