You can add other markets to your android phone, there is one called SlideMe and aprsdroid is uploaded to that one so that way you will get any updates without the need manually check the site for any updates.  Another common one that is used is AppBrain, this one gives you the option to share your installed apps (if you want) 

I've done side by side tests with aprsdroid and my tinytrak4 when out & about and its a good substitute for APRS ;-)
