You mean without a PC?  Well, you could research APRS on a hacked Linksys 
router, or something as simple as putting a TNC at a remote location with an 
IP connected serial port back to base.

You could also get a low-powered PC motherboard, such as Soekris or VIA 
mini-ITX.

What is your goal?  (Power saving/space saving/money saving/geek cred)  What 
are the limitations of the installation site? (No power, no phone, no 
internet).
