Andrew,
I'd just use a DIN to DIN with the appropriate leads crossed over.
The source impedance of a typical TNC is reasonably low for tx audio
and, rx impedance is typically >10k. Audio levels would be 'about'
matched. Typical demodulators can handle a reasonably wide range of
input levels starting at a couple of hundred mV
I've used that technique with 9k6 modems (YAM and Baycom USCC)
